K2 is the original American Ski and Snowboard Brand, founded in 1962 in Washington State. It started with a shop. A garage. A barn. An island. It started with an idea. It started with belief. It started with madness and mistakes. From a garage brand to a garage brand gone global. For now and always, K2 continues to thrive with innovation, craftsmanship, and commitment.

K2 uses a variety of wood species in our cores to fine-tune the performance characteristics of each ski.
Aspen is lightweight and resilient. A great all-around core material.
![Dark Matter Damping](/images/glossary/K2_S220_DARK_MATTER_DAMPING.jpg)
A polymeric damper sandwiched between two layers of high-modulous carbon strategically placed along the ski edge to eliminate high-frequency vibrations, provididng drastically increased edge grip at high speeds.
![Carbon I-Beam](/images/glossary/K2_Carbon_I_Beam.jpg)
Full-length unidirectional carbon running from tip to tail, providing increased accuracy and energy along the entire length of the ski with a lighter, livelier feel than the K2 Titanal I-Beam.
![Powerwall](/images/glossary/K2_S220_Power_Wall.jpg)
Power transfer to the ski's edges is dramatically enhanced with oversized ABS sidewalls that are laminated and pocketed within the wood core in the midbody of the ski
![Speed Rocker™](/images/glossary/K2_S220_Speed_Rocker.jpg)
Short, low rise in the tip with camber throughout and a flat tail for quick turn initiation, precise steering, and maximum stability on groomed snow.
Once thought of as a powder-specific feature, K2 pioneered the use of rocker on all-mountain and piste skis, with the rest of the ski industry following in their footsteps. Today, almost all of the K2 skis are built with rocker, with the height and length optimized on each model for maximum performance and enjoyment.
