Product description
Fun with the Play! Specced out to be a trail killer!
Just like the Trick, the Play has inherited the aesthetics and the performance of our adults’ bikes while throwing open the doors on a world of emotions and opportunities you only get on an ebike. We take our mountain biking very seriously, and any ebike worth its salt, regardless of whether it’s for kids or adults, needs power and range and perhaps most of all it must instil confidence. That’s what we kept in mind while designing the Play.
The new Play range comes with all-new frames, new geometry, and new specs that give the bikes a very definite identity. All three models come with 2.4” tyres (the same as the adult ranges) to improve grip, comfort and confidence, and to allow you to run lower tyre pressures with all the advantages that brings. The redesigned Forward Geometry allows for 30mm stems which give snappy but stable handling, and the frames come with HHG internal cable guiding and are prepared to run dropper posts if you feel the need.
The Play 20” is perfect for kids from 6 to 8 years old (120cm-135cm).
New Design, more fun.
All the new Plays come with a totally new frame, and as with the Trick and F-Trick they’ve inherited the aesthetics and design language of the Mondraker new adult NEAT and F-PODIUM ranges. The new frame design, incorporating straight lines, minimalistic tube profiles, and the characteristic Mondraker headtube-toptube-downtube interface, lends itself to having the battery very low down in the downtube thus lowering the centre of gravity and increasing stability and agility. That in turn has allowed Mondraker to tweak their Forward Geometry, improving the position of the rider and providing greater control when faced with tricky terrain, and increasing rider confidence overall. All Play models use frames built with the Mondraker Alloy Stealth Evo.
Power and control with the Mahle X35
At Mondraker we’re firm believers in the Mahle X35 motor and battery system. It comes with a 250Wh removable internal battery, 40Nm of torque and a 25km/h maximum assisted speed, and all three modes of assistance can be tuned via Mahle’s MySmartbike app.
Stealth Alloy Technology
Stealth Alloy Technology covers the entire manufacturing process of an aluminum frame - from the precise calculation of the smallest details to the industrial design and the precise production of each individual tube. All parts and tubes are carefully developed to fulfill specific functions while keeping weight to a minimum. Stealth technology continues to evolve year after year with optimized shapes and internal adjustments to provide the best possible riding experience with Mondraker aluminum frames. With a bike with a Stealth Alloy Technology frame, you have:<
- Advanced industrial design
- Unmistakable looks
- Market leader in light weight and structural rigidity
Forward Geometry
More grip, safety and performance
Increased safety on steep downhill sections: The front center is longer, which means that the front axle is further forward compared to an average standard geometry. This increases stability and reduces the risk of rollovers in steep and technically demanding passages. The perceived flatter angles ensure a confidence-inspiring riding experience.
Confidence at high speeds: The extended wheelbase improves the bike's stability on any surface.
Direct steering behavior: The combination with our self-developed FG30 stem improves steering precision and enables extremely agile handling.
More uphill precision: The longer front center keeps the front wheel better on the ground and prevents unwanted wheelies. This makes it easier to climb very steep sections.
Stability in technically demanding and difficult terrain: FG results in an improved balance between the front and rear wheel, which in turn leads to more traction and control and therefore more stability on technically demanding and rough terrain.
Technical data
The Mahle X35 drive unit has a max torque of 40Nm and is placed in the rear hub together with a 250Wh battery located in the down tube. Thanks to this rear hub location of the motor, the bike keeps its natural riding feeling and handling, with zero drag. The x35 is quiet and offers three riding modes, which you easily shift through the minimalistic remote on the top tube. The system gives assistance up to 25km/h, after which it becomes a regular gravel bike, and the Mahle technology ensures a natural feeling when the motor starts to assist again.
With the Mahle MySmartBike app, all 3 support levels are fully configurable and can be tailored to your own needs.
Together with Mahle, however, Mondraker has preconfigured the 3 levels with specific tunes to make the experience as close as possible to that on a bike without drive, but with much more fun, range and power.
Mondraker calls this concept WATTS ON DEMAND.
These 3 principles are the basis for WATTS ON DEMAND:
- The unobtrusiveness of the system.
- Support according to graveling requirements.
- "Endless" range
Each support level has 3 parameters that can be set:
Peak Power: The maximum power with which the system supports.
Reactivity: The way in which the support starts.
Acceleration: The progression of the maximum power.
Based on this, mode 1 assists with 25%, mode 2 with 50% and mode 3 with up to 200%, depending on the torque applied by the rider. In contrast to other systems, the X20 system calculates the power addition based on the torque and not on the cadence. This results in power addition proportional to the power the rider applies, which in turn leads to a natural riding experience.
